I am an international business expert, author and broadcaster with expertise in the fields of international marketing, US business and inter-cultural working. I’m a Californian based in London for over 23 years and help European and US organisations growing their markets on either side of the Atlantic. You can see or hear me in the press as I’m a regular guest on CNN, BBC, Sky News, CNBC amongst other outlets.
I speak French and German, received my MBA under the direct instruction of Dr. Peter Drucker and founded International Marketing Partners in 1991 to help companies internationalize successfully.
Following my employment with blue-chip consulting firms Price Waterhouse, PA Consulting Group and Hay Management Consultants, I now advise executives and boards of directors in the professional services (legal, property, financial and retail), food & drink, travel, consumer goods and industrial sectors to name a few. My work with these fantastic clients enables them to lead and manage across cultures, achieve their marketing and business development strategies through successful strategic alliances/joint ventures, organic growth and/or acquisitions.
I am also the co-author of the best-selling book Working with Americans (Prentice Hall), the first-ever business manual exclusively about the US business culture, which helps professionals improve their relationships with and profits from American business partners, bosses and colleagues. It set another first by being the first-ever business book to be invited to the Hay-on-Wye literary festival and has had a great response from CNN, Sky News, Financial Times as well as several BBC television and radio programmes.
I am also a contributing author in the latest edition of The FT Handbook of Management, Win New Business, as well as authoring Marketing in the USA (2nd edition, © UKTI) for the British Government Department UK Trade & Investment.
Having recognised the need for international brands to better align their global and local marketing practices, I have created the BrandBarometer™ powered by Seattle-based GMI (Global Market Insite), which surveyed a worldwide panel of over 17,000 consumers across 17 countries on their perceptions and direct experiences of the world’s most recognised brands.
In addition to my recent 4-year slot on Sky News Business Report programme as the “Muse of Marketing,” I appear as a regular and frequent marketing expert on CNN’s World Business and Business International programmes. I have a regular column in Market Leader magazine and am an expert interviewed frequently for CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, The Financial Times, USA Today, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and Fortune magazines.
As well as being listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who Among Women, I am a frequent keynote speaker at conferences including Wilton Park, Economist Conferences, American Chamber of Commerce Denmark, Institute of Directors Conferences, The Law Society, The British Luxury Council, British American Chamber of Commerce, Inspired Leaders Network, Marketing Society and American Marketing Association on a variety of global marketing trends and developments.
I was awarded EFMD’s Excellence in Practice Award 2009 for my work as a Programme Director at London Business School, which role I also hold at Said Business School at Oxford University. Additionally, I am a member of the European faculty of the Centre for Creative Leadership, Forum Corporation and Blessing White. I was appointed a Faculty member of the Marketing Academy and an active Member of the Marketing Society, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Fellow of the British American Project, member of the American Marketing Association, Institute of Directors, International Women’s Forum and serving on the Senior Advisory Boards of the Institute for Leadership Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and the New York-based Business for Diplomatic Action. I also serve as a judge of the US-based The Stevies® International Business Awards, the UK’s National Business Awards as well as the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Women in Marketing Awards.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business from the Marshall School at the University of Southern California, as well as an MBA from Claremont Graduate University under the direct tutelage of Dr. Peter Drucker. I have been based in London since 1988 and is a British and US citizen, originally from Los Angeles, California.
